Kitty's Restaurant Salmonella Outbreak
Massachusetts health officials are investigating a Salmonella outbreak linked to Kitty's Restaurant in North Reading, Mass. To date, there are 9 confirmed cases and 30 suspected cases.
Health investigators have identified the antipasto salad as the source of the contamination. On July 5, the Board of Health recommended that Kitty's close for cleaning and sanitization. After reopening on July 6, Kitty's closed again days later after the heath department received additional information.
Symptoms of Salmonella include:
- Abdominal cramps
- Fever of 100-102 F
- Bloody diarrhea
- Body aches
Symptoms typically appear 6-72 hours after eating contaminated food and last for 3-7 days without treatment. If you or a family member experienced symptoms, contact your local health department.
