Richard's Hog Head Cheese Salmonella Outbreak

In late January of 2013, the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced that a Salmonella outbreak had been traced to Richard's Hog Head Cheese, sold by Stallings Head Cheese Co. The Salmonella outbreak occurred among Louisiana residents in October and November of 2012.

As the outbreak was announced, Richard's Hog Head Cheese with sell by dates "Use by 2 1 2013" or "Use by 3 20 2013" were recalled for potential Salmonella contamination.

The serotype of Salmonella associated with this particular Salmonella outbreak is Salmonella Uganda. Salmonella serotype Typhimurium and Salmonella serotype Enteritidis are the most common in the United States.
